Monthly Recap: May

Being the exam season, life in Bristol was a little quieter than usual. However, preparations were underway for the premiere of Lunar Leonardo at Victoria Methodist Church, Bristol. On the 23rd I sat in on the first rehearsal of the piece by the Symphonia Philharmonic under the baton of David Simkins.

On the 21st I performed as part of the Tabernacl Church Choral Society in Bridgend. Our major work was Haydn's Nelson Mass with some other smaller pieces in the programme.

On the 24th I travelled to my alma mater, the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, to watch Welsh National Opera Orchestra perform in a Conductor's Showcase. There were five superb student conductors on show and I loved seeing the next generation of conductors on stage. As always it's a pleasure to watch WNO - having played with them on occasion I know how great an orchestra they are.

During the month I worked on a number of projects, including an arrangement for string quartet of a brand new song for a musical currently being written. Several new compositions were started, too, including one for cor anglais, cello, and piano - a unique trio and one ripe with opportunity!
